Day 1: Getting Lost in the Charm of Barcelona's Old Quarter
After checking into our hotel, Le Méridien Barcelona we headed straight to Bar La Plata, which is known to be the most traditional restaurant in Barcelona. We had a great lunch here, and I would highly recommend it. After lunch, we headed to the Old Quarter, and there are plenty of tour options available, or you can simply walk around and explore. Later, we stopped to check out some local shops and picked up some souvenirs. After a power nap, we had dinner at Els 4Gats, which is the most famous tapas bar in the area, and it opened in 1897. One important tip I want to share with you is to make a reservation beforehand because this place is amazing and a must-try.
Day 2: La Boqueria Market and The Best Paella Cooking Class
To experience the true essence of Barcelona, a visit to El Mercado La Boqueria and a paella cooking class are must-do activities. To start our day off on the right foot, we headed to La Rambla and stopped at Morning Glory Coffee for a delicious breakfast. Their avocado toast and Spanish omelet were the perfect fuel for the day ahead.
After breakfast, we met our passionate tour guide, Elias from This is Paella, outside El Mercado La Boqueria. Elias provided a fascinating history of the mercado and the traditions surrounding this classic dish. He explained the key ingredients used in paella and the techniques needed to cook it to perfection.
Our tour through the mercado was followed by a warm and relaxed paella cooking class in Elias's beautiful apartment, which was only a 5-minute walk away. Elias showed us where to buy all the fresh ingredients for the paella and took us on a captivating tour of one of Europe's most iconic markets.
After the market tour, we headed to Elias's home for an incredible paella cooking class, where we learned how to make this iconic Spanish dish step by step. We also enjoyed delicious tapas, learned how to prepare the famous Spanish "pan con tomate", made sangria together, and even learned how to make crema catalana for dessert while we waited for the paella to cook.
All of this took place in a beautiful living room with balconies overlooking Las Ramblas, complete with refreshments, beer, and excellent wines. It was an unforgettable experience that left us feeling full, happy, and with a newfound appreciation for the art of paella-making. Check out Elias's Instagram here for more paella inspiration.
Day 3: Antoni Gaudí’s Work and Tapas Delights
Get ready for Day 3 of our amazing Barcelona adventure, where we had an exciting day exploring art, architecture, and indulging in some delicious food! We started our day by visiting the iconic Park Güell, designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. The park was filled with whimsical structures and mosaics that left us in awe, and the views of the city were absolutely stunning!
After exploring Park Güell, we headed over to Terra Mia for a scrumptious lunch. The charming ambiance of the restaurant, coupled with the delicious food and excellent service, made for a delightful culinary experience. We couldn't resist trying their wood-fired pizza, and the pasta dishes were divine.
We continued our architectural journey with a visit to La Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudí's most beloved creations. The guided tour we opted for allowed us to appreciate the intricate details and stunning stained-glass windows even more, leaving us in absolute awe.
As the sun started to set, we headed over to Terraza Ayre at Ayre Rosellón Hotel for a refreshing cocktail with a breathtaking view. The bar's laid-back vibe and sophisticated drinks menu provided the perfect place to wind down after a long day of sightseeing.
Finally, for dinner, we went to Els Pintxos del Kuki for some of the best tapas and pinchos in town. The cozy ambiance and the wide selection of creative and modern pinchos made it an unforgettable culinary experience. We sampled everything from classic Spanish tortillas to creative and modern pinchos. We washed it all down with some refreshing sangria, which was the perfect way to end a fantastic day full of art, architecture, and food!
Day 4: Discovering the Vineyards and Savoring the Flavors of Catalonia
We started our day with a quick breakfast before we headed out for an exciting wine tour to Montserrat. It was an Airbnb experience, so we met our guide in the city center of Barcelona and took the train to the charming Catalan town of Vilafranca del Penedès.
As soon as we arrived, we grabbed our electric bikes and started our journey through the beautiful vineyards of Penedès, with stunning views of the "Massif de Montserrat". Our guide showed us the most beautiful wine routes in the area and shared interesting insights about the local wine culture and the making of Catalonia's iconic drink, Cava.
Our first tasting was in an authentic family-owned winery, where we discovered the world of natural and biodynamic wines and experienced their unique taste. Then, we continued our scenic bike ride and reached the second winery, where our guide showed us around the cellar and explained the wine and cava making process in detail. We tried several premium organic wines and cava, paired with some delicious local snacks.
The tour duration included transport from and to Barcelona, making it an excellent opportunity to discover the beauty of the Penedès vineyards and indulge in Catalonia's finest wines.
After the wine tour, we made our way back to the city with an easy ride along the vineyards to enjoy some free time exploring Barcelona's vibrant streets and neighborhoods. While some people took advantage and explored the charming coastal town of Sitges, which was just a short transfer away, we decided to check out the trendy El Born district. We strolled through the narrow streets, admiring the medieval architecture and stopping at local shops and cafes along the way. It was a fun and relaxing way to spend the afternoon, and we were all happy to have some downtime before dinner.
In the evening, we headed to El Passadís del Pep, a hidden little gem in the heart of Barcelona, tucked away in a quiet street in the Gothic Quarter. This cozy restaurant specializes in traditional Catalan cuisine, and their menu features fresh, local ingredients and creative flavor combinations, all expertly prepared and presented. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with rustic decor and an intimate setting that makes you feel right at home. We were blown away by the quality of the food and the impeccable service, making it a highlight of our trip to Barcelona.
